In a recent XXL interview, K'naan discussed how he found out Mitt Romney, the current front runner for the Republican nomination, was using his 2010 hit song "Waving Flag" in his campaign. K'naan, a raper from Somalia, is very politically conscious in his rapping style. He draws a good comparison to rappers like Lupe Fiasco and Talib Kweli.
K'naan says he found out when not only his, but also his managers, twitter, e-mail, and phone were blowing up. He says that most of the feedback he was receiving were people who were heated over supporting a candidate who goes against much of what he was rapping about. Upon his discovery, K'naan tweeted "Yo @mittromney I am K'naan Warsame and I do not approve this message."
K'naan says he does plan to contact the campaign and ask them to remove the song from their repertoire, but that's not all. K'naan says he is considering legal action against them because he does not "like what it does to [him] as an artist." He states that if he does sue and win, he will donate all money to the Obama campaign fund.
